Loss is a situation where we have the expectation of a certain result, but end up with something we feel is inferior.
So when we say that someone’s death is a loss, then clearly we had some kind of an idea of immortality imposed on that person. At the very least, a kind of a temporary immortality.
Push come to shove we do understand that person is going to die, but it is not acceptable to us, for that person to die at this point and time.
We would like to reserve some of that kind godly power to ourselves.
